About Johanna

Johanna has been an artist and crafter since childhood, and her mediums and means of expression have evolved over the years. She has a particular fondness for mixed media, fiber art and collage, which have remained constant throughout her artistic journey. Despite not having the opportunity to attend art school, Johanna has found ways to nurture her creativity through various career paths and detours.

One such detour led her to the retail world, when a serendipitous shopping trip at a craft store inspired her to buy and revamp the beloved destination. Over the course of 13 years, Johanna operated two successful craft stores that sold everything from fine art supplies to quilting materials. She developed a dedicated community of creative fans and friends and taught a wide variety of classes in quilting and surface design, earning a reputation as a student favorite thanks to her positive, supportive attitude and determination to help others find their creative outlet.

Johanna is also known as the "Color Queen" for her impeccable eye for color and personal style. She has designed her own unique patterns, which have been featured in quilt magazines, online learning platforms, and her own stores. These patterns often incorporate bright cottons and beautiful batik fabrics.

In 2022, Johanna closed the doors of her physical stores, but other doors have opened for her as she works from her home studio on a series of art quilts for future shows and publication, samples for classes and anything that looks fun. She has also expanded her textile repertoire to include weaving and spinning, and often incorporates upcycled materials in her work. Johanna is passionate about sharing her love of creativity with others, and enjoys teaching. She can be found at some local creative venues in person and soon online!
